Family Foundation School participation in conferences and seminars

Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (NJ): celebrating national recovery month and serving as a springboard to the Northeast conference on Behavioral Health and Addictive Disorders, the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA) hosted their 21st annual conference.  For the second year, The Family Foundation School attended and exhibited at this important conference, initially being invited to do so by an alumni parent who works as Municipal Alliance Coordinator for one of the county’s in NJ.  This year’s conference, attended by over 800 people, highlighted that alcoholism and drug abuse is NJ’s #1 public health concern and identified the significant initiatives being implemented in NJ to address this, focusing especially on prevention.  The governor of NJ was a key note speaker.

Northeast Regional NATSAP (National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs) conference (ME):  This annual conference brings together the member schools and programs in the northeast to share best practices and current trends.  Workshops included topics related to increasing relational integrity (by losing level systems), treating sexual concerns in boys in residential care, and discussing the history of wilderness therapy and where the field is currently.

Wilderness Therapy Symposium – Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Industry Council (CO):   This was FFS’s first attendance at this conference which brings together many of the best therapeutic wilderness programs with the goals of sharing best practices and exchanging information with one another.  Attended by over 200, there were many workshops that were applicable to schools like FFS who receive students from wilderness such as ones focusing on transitional planning and learning about the intervention and preparation of students in wilderness.
